The Empress of Wintermoor
Next week is the last one of these. I hope you've enjoyed them. After that, it's business as usual.
It dawned on me after having my anti-Facebook hissy fit and deleting everyone on my friends list (I couldn't just outright deactivate my account because I use it for work) that people couldn't see when I was posting links to the new comic anymore. I had assumed that if someone "Liked" the Super U. Facebook page, they would be getting the links, but for some reason this wasn't happening. I mean, stuff that I simpy "Liked" shows up on my news feed constantly, so why wouldn't it? Your guess is as good as mine.
I won't get into all the crap behind my decision (and subsequent flip-flop of that decision) to ditch Facebook, but here's a funny interchange that happened to me recently that may shed some light. (And by funny, I mean depressing.)
Person: "Hey, what happened to you on Facebook?"
Me: "I deleted everybody, but I think I screwed myself because now they can't see links to the comic."
Person: "Are you still doing the comic?"
Me: "Yeah. You might not be able to see links to it anymore, but you can always just check the webpage on Wednesdays."
Person: "There's a webpage?"
Anyway, so I "refriended" a bunch of people, a lot of whom I know read and share the comic. For those of you who've been missing out, please check out the Archive on the left over there to get yourselves caught up. I imagine for a lot of people just returning to Super U., they're probably a bit confused. Hand-drawn art, barbarians, hands have four fingers and a thumb instead of three fingers and a thumb...
I've been back and forth on the four fingers thing. When I first started Super U., I was going with a more cartoony style that was supposed to, in theory, be quicker to draw so I could eventually be fast enough to put these out multiple times a week. But as I continued to draw the comic, the comic book artist in me, and not the cartoonist, has been fighting for dominance. This has means I still haven't been putting them out any faster a year later, but overall I'm happier with the quality of the material.
Yeah, that's right, Super U. celebrated it's year anniversary in November. Kinda cool.
General feedback suggests you guys like the hand-drawn stuff, and you like the more comic book-y look. I do still think I will continue to work in Adobe Illustrator (or something along those lines) in the future, mostly because I like how crisp and animated the final product appears, but we shall see.
There are several downsides to going fully hand-drawn, one of which being the money I need to put into supplies, and another being drawing one panel one night, and then another panel much later on a different sheet of paper but not having your first panel with you at the time, so you wing it and end up with glaring inconsistencies that most people won't notice but will drive you crazy every time you look at it, yet you don't have the time to change it because you're trying to meet your deadline, and it's not like you can really work on it at the house anyway when your kid wants to be all up in your business.
Anyway, as always, please share with your unsuspecting friends, and don't forget to "Like" the webpage by clicking that Facebook "Like Box" over there, or +1 if you do the Google. You can also join the site as a member if you have a Google, and you can sign up to receive e-mail notifications when the site updates. These things are not new.

Fairy Fetish
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. We did ours yesterday, since I'll be working on the actual holiday. Turned out great. That is, after dropping the pumpkin pie all over the inside of the oven and having to rush back out to the store and buy all the stuff again (after having just been to the store).
Decided to keep a low profile this holiday season. Not going with the fam anywhere for Christmas, and trying to just buy stuff for the nieces and nephews and my kid (and maybe my wife, if she's good). Admittedly, I seem to get overwhelmed with stress and depression every holiday season these days, but this time there's another reason for the scaling back, and that is I need to have the money to be able fly home at the drop of a hat if my grandpa's illness takes a turn for the worse.
Normally I don't try to burden this blog with personal problems, but I thought I had better give you a heads up, in case there suddenly ceases to be Super U. for a week or two or whatever.
I'm kind of bummed about this Kevin Clash / Elmo / gay pedophile thing. I hope it isn't true, but it probably is. And so close to the death of Martin Robinson (who did Telly and Snuffy, among others)... things aren't looking so hot for Sesame Street. I just hope the ultra-conservative don't get to use this as the push they need to get federal funding for PBS axed.
My kid still isn't in school, and I'm not much of a teacher. So I attribute most of her knowledge to educational programming that is actually entertaining enough kids want to watch it... something that, generally, only PBS can do well.
If you've got a PS3, and you're not on PSplus yet, you're missing out. It took a bit, but now it's amazing how completely worth it the price is. There are so many good games for free available now, you'll get your money's worth three times over.
I'm soliciting for Playstation Network cards this holiday season.
By the way, there's only like two or three more strips like this before I move on. I haven't gotten much feedback from ya'll about how much you've enjoyed / despised the hand-drawn stuff or the storyline. So hook it up with the feedback, son.

A Well-Rounded Party
Totally not late this week. It's still Wednesday. It says up there I update Wednesdays. It doesn't say when on Wednesdays.
A good day today, because the bombardment of political advertisement will stop, and at least half of America showed that it has a bit of sense. On top of Obama getting four more years, three more states decided to okay same-sex marriage, and in my book that's pretty neat.
A bad day today, because I had to take my mom back to the airport. I'm so, so tired of my friends and family being so far away.
Anyway. I had to rush a bit on the strip this week. I'll make it up to you next week.

Lairs and Lizards
This week's strip looks a little weird. Aside from the hand-drawn part, that is. That's because I was working on it during my short trip to Anna Maria Island, and condensation from my beer bottle plopped down on it. Some of the coloring was done with watercolor paint, so... yeah. I had to do some clean-up in Photoshop, and had to black out considerably more than I had intended. I'm sure there was a way to fix it without having to do that, but my skillz are beyond rusty.
But I kind of like the way it turned out, and I figure it can only get better from here.
Speaking of trips, I just got back from Bryce Canyon, Utah, and also Las Vegas. I'd like to go into detail about them here, particularly about Bryce Canyon, but I just can't do it any justice by describing it to you. It boils down to my going on and on about rocks, and doesn't sound nearly as exciting or wonderful as it truly was.
Vegas was cool, too. It was my first time there. Two things about it, though; one is: you know that saying that goes "the food and drinks are cheap in Vegas because they want you to spend your money gambling?" Not true in the slightest. The truth is they want you to spend your money gambling, and they also want you to pay fifteen dollars for a margarita and twenty-two dollars for spaghetti. The second is: Vegas is the last place on Earth you want to go to if you're already broke.
Nevertheless, my dad and I had an awesome time, and I'm sad that we already had to say our goodbyes and go back to our corners of the country.
Halloween looks to be a bust again this year. Our plans to party fell through, which ought to be great fun explaining to my four-year-old who has been anticipating it for most of the year. There's a chance that I might be able to get out of work and join some others at Disney's Not-So-Scary event (because when I think Halloween, I think the Magic Kingdom, and nothing says fun like shoulder-to-shoulder crowds brimming with sugared-up toddlers), but dammit, I had better get to do something... we've already blown a small fortune on our outfits.
Holidays in general tend to be a bust down here in Florida. This could have something to do with the fact that when you work for The Rat, you tend to work all holidays, and may also pertain to the fact most of my family and all of my friends are a thousand miles away.
I had better stop now, before this turns into a real blog.
Just one more thing. If you could find it in your hearts to keep my Papa in your thoughts, I and my family would much appreciate it. Thanks.

Do the Ronfar
Here it is, the first strip of Chapter 2! Thank you all again for your patience while I worked on some things.
The ad box down below got delisted due to low traffic. In retrospect, it was probably a stupid time to put up an ad box while I wasn't posting anything. I'll try and activate it again, and by all means, click on it to read some other person's webcomic! And, of course, should you desire to advertise something here on the site, you can do that, too!
The "official" site at Interrupted Reality is going through some minor changes. It's easier to navigate now, and (fingers crossed) hopefully soon it will start drawing in some traffic of its own now that it will be listed on the Interrupted Reality homepage.
I think I mentioned it before, but on either site you can now donate your hard-earned dollars, or you can use that donation section to request commission artwork. I think on the Interrupted Reality site, you can even buy prints of the strips, but as of this moment I couldn't even begin to tell you how that works.
The YouTube channel seems to have drawn a few curious viewers, so that's neat. All I need to do now is download some music-making program so I can put Chapter 2 to music I created, and then I can monetize the shit out of that, too!
Funnily enough, the strip with the most views is one that I tagged with the word "cleavage." Maybe I'll just start tagging everything as "hardcore porn" and I'll get a bazillion views.
All in all, Super U. has made me, like, three dollars. But hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
Anyway, without further ado... I give you... "Do the Ronfar!" A strip that like only two of you will think is hilarious.
