Repercussions

I'm totally happy with the way I ripped off Jack Kirby's "Kirby dots" in that first panel.  Also, Dean Clobber's nose in that third panel.  Man, what a great nose I drew.

Looks like Aiden's mom and SuperDude sent out that memo.  This can only spell mo' problems for our protagonist.  Really though, his troubles are only just beginning...

The Walters Files: Dean Clobber

Dammit, I keep saying this, but I really intend on using Dean Clobber a lot more.  I like the idea of a "Thing-like" character stomping around the halls and coming down hard on the students acting out.  I also like the idea of him being like the Dean in Animal House, and getting pranks pulled on him and shouting in fury while shaking a fist in the air "TEEEEAM DICKPUUUUNCH!!"  But he's not necessarily an antagonist; Dean Clobber's got a level head, and unlike the wisecrack-making, fun-loving character he parodies, he's more of the no-nonsense, take-no-crap type.
While SuperDude is technically in charge of Super U., being University President, he can't be bothered with the actual running of the school.  So all that seems to fall on Dean Clobber's shoulders, in addition to his role as disciplinary enforcer.

Retribution

I only have three days left to work at my job.  It's a strange sensation, but I guess it's been a long time coming.  I have no doubts now about the decision I've made to "leave the work-force."  Immediately after the wife started her new job, she's been getting home way later than would be acceptable for me to get to my own job on time.

Caricaturing has been absolutely the most fun I've ever had at a job, and it will be hard to leave that behind.  It has also been, I think, the least profitable job I've ever had.  I was assured that the reason I didn't make any money was because I wasn't selling myself well enough.  There's some truth in that; I didn't hire on to plead with passing strangers to let me draw silly pictures of them.  That being said, however, after three years I was still getting almost exclusively the worst caricaturing locations Disney World has to offer, while I watched several artists hired after me raise quickly through the ranks.
I compared my numbers to my co-workers' numbers after every shift.  Far more often than not, I was among the top-sellers.  So there's that.
I sometimes wonder whether my being one of the only people involved with the company that wasn't a mega-Christian had something to do with the location purgatory I was subjected to.  This atmosphere always made things very uncomfortable for me.  I sometimes felt like an undercover journalist asked to penetrate the ranks of a cult.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  Hell, I was asked during my interview if I went to church.

Anyway, who knows?  When my kid starts kindergarten, maybe I'll go get a part-time job at McDonald's and make some real money.

We're going to those Japanese gardens this weekend.  I cannot wait.  So, Jason, could you post the SSS this Saturday?  That'd be great.  Hey, that rhymed.

Don't forget, guys and gals, starting very soon, Super U. goes tri-weekly!  I mean, I ain't gonna have shit else to do!  So help me get the word out so, you know, I don't die poverty and obscurity!  No pressure.

Staff Infection

Doing a little better this week.  Got out this weekend to Bok Tower, which is about an hour from my apartment.  And my wife ran across this incredible thing that we are planning to make a whole weekend out of during their "Hatsume Fair," which I gather is some sort of spring festival.  We had no idea such a place existed in Florida, let alone only a few hours from here.  Knowing there are things like this outside of Tourist Hell, Florida is helping me to come to terms with the reality that I may be living here for the next third of a century or so.   It's nice to have something to look forward to.

A short strip this week.  I had some ideas where I would introduce Dean Clobber, Disciplinary Head, in the third panel, and I wanted to give him a ridiculous "It's Clobberin' Time!"-esque catchphrase, but I drew a blank.  But, nevertheless, I like how it came out.

I think once I hit the end of Chapter One on the "official site" I'm going to ditch Interrupted Reality.  It looked promising at first, but it has yet to bear fruit.  I still plan on, after the end of Chapter Two here in another 23 strips or so, taking another hiatus to YouTube-ify the Chapter, with the goal of 2 movies a week, I think.  Maybe I'll spread them out to trick myself into thinking the sites are getting more attention than they truly are.

Anyhoo, please help to spread the Super U. love.  "Like" and / or "+1" this page with those little buttons over there, and "Like" and "Share" the links on your preferred social media sites.  Doing so will result in your gaining my utmost admiration.
