The Walters Files: Conjuressa

I needed somebody who was magical for the strip, and since my focus relies pretty heavily on JLA and Avengers parodies, I decided on a Scarlet Witch / Zatanna.  I don't have many plans for Conjuressa beyond a few funny gags in mind, but outfit aside, I like the look I came up with for her.  I imagine her looking perpetually nervous and bewildered most of the time, like her grasp of what's real is slowly melting away.  I think I was also ever-so-slightly influenced by Paul Kidby's take on the Discworld character Magrat.
The name Conjuressa I took from a minor villain character I used in the original RPG.
Conjuressa looks a bit too much like Scarlet Witch, I think.  I added some nylon aspects to her outfit as an homage to Zatanna.  I would have done fishnet, but that's a bitch to draw in Illustrator.

It's my understanding that Batman and Zatanna have / had a bit of thing.  I think it might be ridiculously funny to pursue something alone those lines with Walters and Conjuressa, or more likely, to reveal that there was "something going on" between them in the past.

Kudos to Jason for coming up with an interesting origin for her, and for coming up with Sham'bala and the other mystic cities.  Have you read his description of Carcass on the SSS?  It's good stuff.

Spiritorum Awayos

It occurred to me I have characters I haven't used since Chapter 1, Conjuressa, the magic teacher, being one of them.  Even then, at the time, she was just a sight gag.  I'll have to do a Walters File for her pretty soon.  Of course, if you're interested in her background, or any teacher's for that matter, you can always head over to the SSS and look up their name in the tag cloud.  And if there's ever a character you'd like to see all the strips he or she is present in here at Super U., just click on their label below any post they're in (or go to their Walters File and find their label there).

I doubt I need to prove how much of a geek I am, but here's another example: not only have I created fictional elective classes for my fictional students, but I put some thought into which students would take Comprehension of the Arcane Arts, which students would take Archery and Marksmanship and which students didn't give a crap about either one of those classes and elected to take nothing at all during their 7th period.

At least once per chapter, I like to take you through a typical day at Super U., class by class.  The last several strips have reflected the students' classes, in order.  That said, the next class should be World History with The Commander, but I'm gonna have to skip that one this time around because I've been chomping at the bit to get to 9th period, which is Combat Education with Mr. Walters.
Now that Birdo and E.P.I.C. are dead, and Bobby Rocket's in jail, Mr. Walters is going to have to make further adjustments to the Combat Education teams.  SPOILER: It still won't go well for Aiden.

There's another reason I need to skip it, too.  See, this strip here is #98, which means I've almost hit my 100th strip.  And there's something special I want to do.

Ambiguity Aversion

Not much to report today.  I'm sick as a dog, and so is apparently everyone else.  It's one of those ridiculous sinus things where you feel like you're on medication all day long, when in fact you haven't taken any.

If there's anyone out there who decided not to play Dragon Age 2, I recommend you give it a shot.  Yeah, I know I'm like a year behind on this one, but the game was 20 bucks.  I still prefer the first one, if anything but for the vastly different intros alone, but initially I didn't want to play part 2 because the demo made it feel like a button-masher.  But it turns out that you can actually turn the button-mashing off in the options menu, and then play it pretty much just like the first one.
The biggest problem I have with part 2 is that they've taken a great character from the DLC from the first one, the mage Anders, who was very amusing, and made him not amusing any more.
I've already beaten it once, and during my playthrough I managed to not recruit one person entirely, let alone even meet him (Fenris), and then by the end I lost two more party members due to conflicts of personality.  One guy was like, "Yay, murder!" and I was like, "No.  You should leave."  And then another guy was like, "You're letting him leave?  Screw that.  I'm leaving!"  But whatever.  I didn't need those jerks anyway, and I'm looking forward, on my second playthrough, to morally conflicting with different teammates entirely.

Also, the Muppets DLC in Little Big Planet 2 is awesome.  'Nuff said.
